Shayna M. Faul is a third-year undergraduate in the Johns Hopkins SAIS BA/MA International Relations program, specializing in East Asia, cross-Strait relations, and U.S.-China policy. Born in Beijing to an American father and a Taiwanese mother, she grew up in Taiwan, developing a deep understanding of the region’s political and cultural dynamics. Fluent in Mandarin and English, with intermediate Japanese proficiency, she has engaged with primary sources to analyze regional developments. Her personal and academic background has shaped her passion for U.S.-Asia relations, diplomacy, and security. She has published on Taiwan’s democratic identity and China’s ideological narratives, contributing to policy discussions.
